By the early 1920’s every drugstore had a soda fountain creating a place for friends and family to socialize. Soda “jerks” would have their recipes memorized and be ready to serve up all sorts of popular drinks. Today, old-fashioned soda fountains are often hard-to-find except at Lee’s Inlet Soda Fountain in Lee’s Apothecary, an authentic soda fountain and sandwich shop where you can experience the nostalgia of past decades. “We still make drinks the old-fashioned way — you can order phosphates, ice cream sodas, shakes, malts, homemade sandwiches and much more,“ said proprietor Willie Lee.
Sometime around 2002, Melissa and Willie were looking around on eBay, and they came upon a beautiful soda fountain with the original 1920 Milk Glass front and marble top. The person selling it was the 2nd owner – he was the grandson of the original owner. The soda fountain had its home on Route 66 in Oklahoma. So the one and only time Melissa and Willie ever purchased anything on Ebay, they purchase their piece of Americana history and became the third owner of the soda fountain!
And as God planned it, the seller of the soda fountain also has some antique apothecary cabinets.
As avid travelers who had not yet been to Myrtle Beach, the sellers decided to bring the soda fountain and apothecary cabinets to Lee’s Inlet to make their new home.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
